Company History

Signature Garment Care and Linen Service was first started by the Martin Family in 1939. Originally named “Martin’s Dry Clean Express,” the Martin family ran the business as a retail and commercial dry cleaning business serving the central Dallas area. Their main focus was the Dallas hospitality industry where they developed a solid customer base. In 1997, the last member of the Martin family was ready for retirement and they sold their well established valet dry cleaning business to Allen Carter.

Over the next few years, revenue doubled for this already solid business servicing some of the largest and most prestigious hotels in the DFW area. In January of 2001, the decision was made to sell Martin’s Dry Clean Express in order to pursue other dry cleaning ventures. In September 2001, the hospitality industry as well as the rest of the nation was affected by 9/11. As a result, the well established business took a large hit, and in January of 2003, Allen Carter along with his new business partner, Phil Blackstone, re-acquired the business.

Over the next few years, they re-established the business back to its former solid foundation. In 2005, the company decided to vertically integrate, so a decision was made to purchase a franchise, CRDN “Certified Restoration Dry-Cleaning Network.” The CRDN business model’s main purpose is to work with all National Insurance carriers in order to help restore the lives of its clients (insured’s) clothing and electronics after a flood or fire. Martin’s Dry Clean continued to grow to the point of recruiting another partner in 2006. Joel Blackstone was brought in to run the garment plant operations. In July 2007, the new team decided to work on branding a new image and rebranded the company to Signature Garment Care and Linen Service. As a part of the name transformation, Signature moved their facility from a 13,000 sq. ft. plant to a 43,000 sq. ft. plant strategically located 4 miles from downtown Dallas. The team decided to continue its plans to further vertically integrate itself into other aspects of the hospitality industry and a decision was made to expand by offering Linen Services to hotels.

Over the next two years, Signature Garment Care and Linen Service was able to partner with some large branded hotels in Dallas by providing them with end to end outsource of linen and garment services. As both Linen and the Restoration division’s continued to grow, Signature recruited James Conatser in July 2008 to manage and operate CRDN.

In January 2010, Signature recruited a new partner, Randall Falcon, VP Business Development. Randall’s role was designed for him to strategically grow, analyze and maintain strong business relations with established Hotel Owners and Executives.

In late 2012, part of the overall strategic plan to vertically integrate, Signature acquired Premium Laundry, a second generation family owned and operated Linen Rental and Healthcare Service company.

In 2015, the company rebranded to Signature Hospitality Services to support its vision and acquisition of new business. Signature continued to grow its core business of garment care and hotel linen service, but now owned a larger presence in the Linen Rental arena by offering Restaurant and Healthcare rental services to DFW.

In 2017, Signature outgrew its 43,000 sq. ft. facility and 13,000 sq. ft. of lease space. Needless to say, plans were launched and a decision was made to reclaim efficiencies by having all lines of business under one roof. In the spirit of supporting the growth strategies, Signature Hospitality Services (S.H.S.) purchased a 79,000 sq. ft. facility to meet the current and future market demands. SHS purchased many state-of-the-art redundant pieces of equipment to improve capacity, efficiencies and a much improved environment for our valued employees. In September of 2018, with great excitement, SHS proudly relocated and began transitioning into its new state-of-the art facility which currently has 150,000 pounds of daily wash and finishing capacity with planned spots for additional equipment to support future growth plans.

As the leader in the DFW market, SHS will continue to support the DFW hospitality market by its strategic growth and service offerings.
